If you what the blend tool to do most of the work you can set your specified steps to a large number like 300 or 400.

How many specified steps you want depends on how much work you want to do. Spacing should be changed to specified steps. During this step, you can do one of two things. Select both of your sentences and in the top toolbar go to object, blend, blend options. Depending on how diagonal you want your shadow to be, you might need to drag your letters off of the artboard which is perfectly fine for this tutorial. By holding down Alt as you drag your text, you are copying your sentence so make sure you don’t let go of Alt until you have dropped your sentence in place. Hold down Alt and drag your text diagonally to the right. You can then click on the left align text button at the top left of your type options box that looks like this: Typically Adobe Illustrator defaults to left aligned letters, but if for some reason your type is not left aligned you can change it by going up to window in the top toolbar, scrolling down to type, and clicking on paragraph. You can find the type tool by pressing T on your keyboard. If you are only working with a few words on the same line you don’t need to worry about them being left aligned. Type out your words or sentences and arrange them so your words are left aligned. I thought I would teach you my process of making long shadow letters by showing you how I made the title image for this post. There is going to be two versions of this tutorial one that is slightly less labor intensive and one that I like to call the perfectionist’s version. If you later decide to change the shadow or text color, you can do that in the Appearance Panel.I have been seeing a lot of long shadow designs lately and I thought I would share with you an easy way of creating your own. Now that you know how to make a long shadow text effect in Illustrator, the next time you want to apply this effect to any other text, simply select your text, go to the Graphic Styles window and click on your new long shadow style. Lastly, with your text selected, click on the "New Graphic Style" icon in the Graphic Styles window to add the new effect to your Library. To do that, go to Window > Graphic Styles. Now that the effect is made, is a good idea to save it for a future use. In the Transform Effect window, apply the following values and click OK. Next, and with the black fill selected, click on the "Add New Effect" icon and from the dropdown list select Distort & Transform > Transform. Step 9Ĭlick on the "Add New Fill" icon and set the color to the same you've used for your stroke, which in this case is Black. Select the Fill layer and set any color you want to use for your text, which in this case is Yellow. In the Offset Path window apply the following settings and click OK. Step 6Ĭlick on the "Add New Effect" icon and from the dropdown list select Path > Offset Path. Set the stroke Weight to 4 pt and the stroke color to the same color you want to use for your shadow, which in this case is Black. Step 5Ĭlick on the "Add New Stroke" icon (a Fill layer will also be added). With the text selected, go to Window > Appearance. In the tools panel, set both the Fill and Stroke of your text to "none". Here I will be using CocoSharp Heavy at 300 pt with a simple "Long Shadow" text in 2 lines. Select the Type Tool (T) and using any font you want, type your text. In this case I will make mine at 1800 x 1200 px. Open Illustrator and make a new file at any size you want.
